BJP’s Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) which was recently passed in the Lok Sabha has found strange opposition from the BJP itself.
It is not the non-BJP parties and tribal civil society groups alone who are protesting against the CAB in Mizoram. The state unit of BJP has come out strongly against the CAB stating that the Bill, if passed by the Parliament, will be harmful for the people of Mizoram as it might result in thousands of foreigners being granted citizenship, The Times of India reported.
Mizoram BJP president John V Hluna told the media, “We have expressed our opposition to the passage of the citizenship amendment bill and our stance remains the same.” Hluna said he has already submitted a petition to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in opposition of the CAB.
Earlier, Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga has talked about the possibility to pull out of the NDA and NEDA, in which the party is partner of BJP.
