In a significant political development BJP state President of Kerala, Kummanam Rajasekharan was on Friday appointed as the Governor of Mizoram.
He replaces Lt Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma whose term comes to an end on 28th May.
A press release from Rashtrapati Bhavan yesterday said, “The President of India has been pleased to appoint Shri Kummanam Rajasekharan to be the Governor of Mizoram vice Lt. General (Retd.) Nirbhay Sharma, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, VSM, who is completing his tenure on May 28, 2018.”
65-year-old Kummanam Rajasekharan is currently the President of BJP in Kerala since 2015 and a former RSS pracharak. He was also actively involved with the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, according to media reports.
Appointment of a BJP veteran with RSS background is specially notable given that Mizoram is facing assembly elections later this year.
