Hundreds of people took to the streets to demand creation of “Darlawn district” in Mizoram on Tuesday. The rally was organized under the aegis of Darlawn District Demand Committee at Darlawn town, about 114 km northeast of Aizawl.
The protesters wanted Darlawn district be curved out of Aizawl district “for development of the area”.
According to Darlawn District Demand Committee secretary Lalhmangaizual, there are 41 villages within the designated Darlawn district demand area.
“We do not want to be attached with other district, but new district with separate administrative setup for development of our area,” he said.
The demand for creation of Darlawn district reportedly began in 1988.
