Opposition says election won’t be allowed in Bangladesh if Khaleda Zia is in jail

Bangladesh Nationalist Party has claimed that its chairperson Khaleda Zia is seriously ill in jail and she has been denied treatment.

“Our chairperson who is also a three-time Prime Minister of the country, is critically ill in jail but she’s not getting any treatment,” said Senior Joint Secretary General of BNP Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on 15th April.

Rizvi demanded the immediate release of Khaleda Zia from jail so that she can receive good treatment.

Further in an interview to the Dhaka Tribune published today, Rizvi said BNP will “never allow for an election without her [Khaleda Zia] to happen in this country”.

“All of our current activities are centered around Khaleda Zia’s release. Nothing else comes first. BNP will think about the election only after the chairperson is released”, he added.
