Chakmas of Delhi welcome traditional New Year with Buddha Puja

The Chakma community members residing in Delhi NCR region celebrated “Chakma New Year” by organizing a Buddha Puja on 15th April at Ashok Buddha Vihar at Rajghat in New Delhi.

Chakmas across the world have celebrated Bizu for consecutive three days from 13-15 April. The Bizu traditionally ends with the dawn of the new year. On the new year, Chakmas seek blessings of the Buddha by going to the temple.

Sources said about 150 Chakmas in colourful attire attended the Buddha Puja programme at the Rajghat Buddhist Temple which is managed by the Chakmas themselves.
